A 16-day closure of SEPTA's Green Line trolley service begins Friday night at 10:00 p.m. for the "Trolley Tunnel Blitz," an opportunity for workers to complete infrastructure projects that would otherwise require months of nighttime and weekend shutdowns.

According to the Philadelphia City Paper, in addition to replacing a mile of track, SEPTA plans to repair and clean track drains to reduce standing water and clear graffiti, while some Center City trolley stations will get upgrades to their stairs and entryways.

Routes 10, 11, 13, 34 and 36 will be suspended from Juniper Street to 40th Street until August 14. With the exception of 22nd and 19th streets, SEPTA commuters can still access the same Center City stops on the Green Line by using the Market-Frankford Line instead.

This is the third summer SEPTA has done its "Trolley Tunnel Blitz" to facilitate work on large-scale infrastructure and cleaning initiatives.
