Finally, on Wednesday afternoon, the Sixers announced that Holmes passed all elements of the league’s concussion protocol. And potentially in an effort to give the 23-year-old big man some badly needed playing time, he has been assigned to the D-League and the Delaware 87ers. Holmes should be in uniform for tonight’s Sevens game against the Maine Red Claws.
We wrote earlier today about the Sixers’ crowded frontcourt, and even if can’t find an odd-man out among and , there seems to be no spot for Holmes despite the fact he has shown some positive things when given playing time. He might be a bit overqualified for the D-League, but with the big man situation as sticky as it is, at least Holmes will be able to get on the court.
In 21 games this season, Holmes is averaging 16 minutes, 6.9 points on 51.3 percent shooting, and 4.3 rebounds.
