PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Phillies right-hander Kevin Slowey followed a solid spring debut with another strong outing, pitching three hitless innings Sunday in Philadelphia's 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Freddy Galvis, Ben Revere, Odubel Herrera and Brian Bogusevic drove in runs for the Phillies, who held the Rays scoreless until the eighth inning.

Slowey pitched two scoreless innings in his first start against the New York Yankees. He struck out two and retired all nine batters he faced against Tampa Bay.

That's encouraging news for the Phillies, who said earlier in the day that Cliff Lee has soreness in his elbow and will miss his next scheduled start. The 36-year-old had a MRI on Friday and the club plans to get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews this week.

Right-hander Chris Archer made his first start for Tampa Bay, allowing one run in two innings.
