A new program in Camden County aims to save money and energy by installing LED lightbulbs at nearly 1,000 existing street fixtures, CBSPhilly reports.

The energy-efficient bulbs will be installed at 900 fixtures along roads in six Camden County municipalities: Winslow Township, Berlin Borough, Clementon, Lindenwold, Pine Hill and Stratford.

The project, funded by an $800,000 HUD grant, is expected to save the municipalities involved an accumulated $100,000 a year.

“And just here in Winslow alone, Winslow Township itself will save somewhere around $28,000 per year through this program,” Freeholder Jonathan Young told CBSPhilly.

The brighter lights may also help deter vandalism and other crimes, county officials said.
