Woman becomes ill after treating patients in Sierra Leone

A female health care worker, returning from treating Ebola patients in Sierra Leone, was escorted from a plane Monday at Newark Liberty International Airport after exhibiting signs of the illness. 

Neither the woman’s identity nor an update on her condition been released, but passengers on the flight were tweeting about the incident when it occurred.

Hackensack University Medical Center, where the woman was taken and one of three New Jersey' hospitals assigned to admit patients suspected of having Ebola, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. issued statements regarding the patient, The Record reported.


 According to sources, the woman had a high fever and began vomiting while traveling on United Airlines Flight 45 from Brussels.

Despite sporadic incidents of possible Ebola cases in the tri-state area [New York, New Jersey and Connecticut] in recent months, only one person has been diagnosed with the potentially deadly virus: Dr. Craig Spencer, a resident of Manhattan's Hamilton Heights neighborhood. He was successfully treated at Bellevue Hospital in November after returning from Guinea while working with Doctors Without Borders, The Record reported.
