WATCH: Utley booed loudly at Citi Field

Fans give former Phillie hostile reaction following controversial slide

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley may no longer wear a Phillies uniform, but he may as well have been wearing red pinstripes Monday night considering his reception among Mets fans.

Following his controversial slide during game two of the NLDS against New York Saturday, which broke the leg of shortstop Ruben Tejada and helped the Dodgers tie the series , many accused the second basemen of a dirty play.

  • Plenty of analysts and players defended the slide as well, but it should come as no surprise that the Mets' faithful were disapproving of the play.

They sure let him know it before game three at Citi Field. Utley, who is appealing a two-game suspension delivered because of the play, didn't flinch amid the rain of boos.

Phillies fans who view Utley's reaction may think back to a similarly hostile crowd in New York a few years ago.

He was booed loudly at Yankee Stadium for the 2008 All Star Game, yet he traded stoicism for profanity that time around (Disclaimer: Video contains explicit language):

It's probably safe to say Utley won't be looking for real estate in the Big Apple when he retires.
