Chase Utley reaches out to Ruben Tejada, while New York tabloids call his slide ‘dirty’ and a ‘disgrace’

This was exactly the moment that headline writers at the New York Post and New York Daily News live for. This was their time to shine.

By now, you’ve probably seen Chase Utley’s controversial takeout slide on Ruben Tejada. Here was a former Phillie and certified “Met-killer” injuring New York’s shortstop with a slide that was questionable at best… in another uniform while the Phillies finished with the worst record in baseball. The possibilities were endless.

Here is what they came up with:

It’s important to remember that Tejada broke his leg on the play, which personally stinks for him and makes life more difficult for the Mets going forward. According to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, Utley has reached out to Tejada:

Notice how Utley is only apologizing for the result, not the slide itself. It’s kind of hard to separate the two, no? As a bonus, listen to Mike Francesa taking a call from an emotional Mets fan from earlier today. The Sports Pope had no time for any tears:
