Verizon wireless announced Sunday that it will again offer customers an unlimited data plan on its 4G LTE network starting Monday, reversing course from an overhaul last summer that saw speeds drop whenever plan holders exceeded their data limits.
The move, revealed in a YouTube video, outlines the company's decision to provide a $80 monthly package with HD video streaming, Mobile Hotspot, calling and texting to Mexico and Canada, and up to 500 MB/day of 4G LTE, with peak speeds improved by up to 50 percent in more than 471 cities in the United States.
“We’ve built our network so we can manage all the activity customers undertake," said Ronan Dunne, president of Verizon’s wireless division. "Everything we’ve done is to provide the best experience on the best network – and we’ve built it for the future, not just for today. We also fundamentally want you to have more choice. We’re not limiting you to a single plan. If you don’t need unlimited data, we still have 5 GB, S, M, and L Verizon plans that are perfect for you.”
The move comes after competitors AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile introduced similar plans last fall to eliminate overage fees and provide "unlimited data" plans at various price points.
