Historic Houses of Fairmount Park to host 'A Very Philly Christmas'

Tour the mansions decorated for the holidays

Every year, the historic homes in Fairmount Park get dressed in their holiday best for visitors to wander through.

This year, the Historic Houses of Fairmount Park will host "A Very Philly Christmas." The special event will feature four theme days. The six houses participating are: Cedar Grove, Historic Strawberry Mansion, Laurel Hill, Lemon Hill, Mount Pleasant and Woodford.

• Saturday, Dec. 3 is "Sounds of the Season" – Participants include Opera Philadelphia, the Mummers, a doo wop group and other musicians.
• Sunday, Dec. 4 is "Family Day" – Entertainment and activities provided by Franklin Institute, Walnut Street Theatre and the Please Touch Museum, among others.
• Saturday, Dec. 10 is "Neighbor's Day" – The talents of neighbors to Fairmount Park will be showcased.
• Sunday, Dec. 11 is "Flavors of the Season" – Samples of holiday treats will be provided by Shane Confectionery, Yards Brewery and other local places.

It costs $8 per house to visit the historic homes. Children 12 and younger can attend for free.

Can't make the two "A Very Philly Christmas" weekends? Don't worry. There are events at the historic houses through the entire month of December.
