Video posted online appears to show angry fans destroying audio equipment at a Philadelphia venue after a popular singer failed to take the stage.

Gerardo Ortiz, a singer-songwriter from California and winner of several Mexican "Billboard" Music Awards, was set to perform at the Explanada De Philadelphia, located at 820 Spring Garden St., on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Ortiz never took the stage, and several fans reportedly reacted by throwing things at the stage, knocking over and tossing speakers to the ground, and damaging instruments, videos posted afterward by those in attendance show.

A statement posted to Ortiz's Facebook page apologized for the no-show, said that he could not perform for "health reasons" and asked his fans to hopefully understand.

As pointed out by Spanish-language news outlet Univision, Ortiz posted a photo to his social media account of him drinking beer and promoting that night's show just hours before the concert.

Explanada De Philadelphia is rented out by adjacent nightclub District N9NE, yet Michigan-based Zamora Entertainment had rented out the space for Ortiz's concert, according to a man who answered the phone at the club Wednesday morning and who wished not to be identified.

An email request seeking comment from Zamora was not immediately returned Wednesday morning.
