Wanted: Security guards for papal visit

Job fair seeking to hire 100 guards for World Meeting of Families

Attention job seekers.

A Philadelphia group is holding a job fair Wednesday in search of a number of security guards for the pope's visit to Philadelphia next month.

Pennsylvania Career Link will host the job fair with a goal of hiring 100 security guards for US Security Associates to help handle crowds during the World Meeting of Families and the papal weekend.

"They’re not necessarily looking for years of experience, it could be six months or less," Meredith McCarthy, who works for Pennsylvania Career Link, told CBSPhilly. "It’s a great way for people to earn income and participate in this very high-profile event."

The main requirements are a willingness to deal with crowds with smiles, and the ability to sit and stand for eight hours at a time at stations scattered through the city.

The jobs will span about three weeks and pay $8.00 to $10.00 an hour. McCarthy said she expects more job opportunities to come.

The fair will be held at Career Link’s Suburban Station office at 1617 JFK Blvd, Suite 200 from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday. Candidates should dress professionally and bring a resume.
