In a web ad released Thanksgiving week, U.S. Sen. Candidate John Fetterman uses the highly charged immigration issue to “take a stand against sensationalizing refugees.”

The spot focuses on Fetterman’s wife, Gisele, who “fled a violent situation in Brazil and came to this country undocumented with her family when she was a young girl.”

The campaign spot targets Presidential candidate Ted Cruz and U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, against whom Fetterman would run should he win a Democratic Primary against Joe Sestak and Katie McGinty.

“At one point in time, we call came from a boat somewhere,” says Fetterman in the spot. “Immigration is what made this country great and immigration is what’s continuing to help this country grow. People are coming to this country simply for a better life and a chance to contribute.”

For their parts, Sestak made immigration reform an issue during his summer book tour, McGinty has come under fire regarding sanctuary cities and the Toomey campaign noted that he supports immigrants who aren’t “ISIS infiltrators."
