It's not Christmas without a spirited rendition of "The 12 Days of Christmas," but don't turn to West Philadelphia native Will Smith to deliver the goods.

This holiday season, the actor was busy promoting his movie "Collateral Beauty" (which received "absolutely brutal" reviews, by the way). During an interview with Buzzfeed UK, Smith was asked if he knew the words to the holiday classic. He started singing but quickly discovered he needed help. Smith is musically gifted so he had the rhythm and melody perfected, his problem was the lyrics.

Who can blame him? No one knows the order of gifts that the true sent.

Sure, everyone knows about the five golden rings because that's the best part of the song. The turtle doves are easy too because they symbolize love so of course there are two: one for your true love and one for you. Plus, nobody wants multiple partridges in their pear tree.

The rest of the song is the issue. It's not common knowledge to know how many "maids a milking" are appropriate to give as a gift.

At least he tried.

Watch the clip below as Smith tries to convince us that his true love gave him "seven suckers swimming":

Here's how the song really goes (with lyrics!):
