A woman is facing charges related to the investigation of the shooting death of an 8-year-old Camden girl last month, however, authorities say the girl's killer is still on the loose.

Prosecutors announced Friday that Shakia Land, 35, of Camden, has been charged with one count of hindering an investigation into the girl's homicide.

The charges stem from interviews Land has done with authorities. Police allege she has not been truthful when asked about the whereabouts of people connected to the Hill-Carter investigation.

"She knowingly provided a false alibi for a person of interest in our law enforcement investigation," Camden County Police Chief J. Scott Thomson said Friday. He added, "We are going to hold every single person responsible for what led up to the shooting of Gabby and who hindered our investigation."

Authorities continue to investigate the shooting death of 8-year-old Gabrielle Hill-Carter that occurred the evening of Aug. 24. on the 900 block of South Ninth Street.

Thomson has said Hill-Carter was killed by a stray bullet fired during a shootout between rival gang members as she played on the sidewalk outside her home in the city's Bergen Square neighborhood.

A $76,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest or conviction of anyone responsible for Hill-Carter's death.

"I am still very confident we will be able to bring the people to justice (who are) responsible for this," Thomson said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Sherman Hopkins at 856-225-8623 or Camden County Police Department Detective Michael Ross at 856-757-7420.
