Woman struck by Philadelphia police cruiser last week has died

Michelle Kolk, 40, died on Tuesday night, a week after a patrol vehicle backed into her in Kensington

A Philadelphia mother of two who was struck by a marked Philadelphia police cruiser last week in Kensington has died of her injuries, police said on Wednesday.

The victim, Michelle Kolk, 40, a resident of Northeast Philadelphia, was struck by a police cruiser carrying two city officers who were in the area for an investigation on April 18 at 4:25 p.m. 

The accident occurred on the 3000 block of F street when the officer driving the cruiser reportedly reversed without seeing Kolk, and hit her, causing critical injuries.

The officers immediately put Kolk into the vehicle and transported her to Temple University Hospital, where she was treated for multiple broken bones and internal bleeding, according to 6abc.com.

Kolk succumbed to her injuries at the hospital on Tuesday at 5:05 p.m., police said.

The names of the two officers involved in the incident have not been released, and an investigation is underway, police said.

6abc.com reported the officer behind the wheel during the incident has been placed on non-driving status as part of police policy.
