Adoption offers have been pouring in for a dog who once belonged to a New Jersey soldier.

When the soldier was killed, his parents took his dog Rambo in as a "living, loving reminder of their late son."

Unfortunately, they are unable to care for the 6-year-old, 120-pound Rottweiler anymore, so he is in a shelter looking for a home, Pets for Patriots said in a blog post on Veterans DayRambo was taken to Pequannock Animal Shelter in Morris County in September.

"Rambo is completely heart broken, stressed and mentally deteriorating at the shelter," the post says. "He needs stability in his life, and a family to love him as much as his late soldier did – and as much as the good folks at the shelter do now. They don’t want to see him suffer any longer, and neither do we."

Word of Rambo's story quickly spread, and calls to the shelter were "overwhelming."

"We are so thankful for the overwhelming response to Rambo," Pequannock Animal Shelter said in a Facebook post on Thursday. "We are working on getting back to everyone. Please be patient as we sort through all of your questions and inquiries. Thank you for all of your support!"

As of Thursday afternoon, Rambo was still available, but it appears it will only be a matter of time before he finds "the loving home he deserves, and that his late dad would want for him."
