Forever 21 opening on Chestnut Street in February

Credit cards at the ready, folks: The Center City Forever 21 project that has long been filed under the "Too Good to be True" category looks like it's not only happening, but opening soon.

A Forever 21 press representative told PhillyVoice.com that the storefront, located at 1708 Chestnut St., now has an estimated opening date of February. Previous reports had slated it for a January opening.

PhillyVoice.com contacted Donald Borg Construction and was told that construction on the building will wrap up within the next two weeks, in line with the official word from the fashion retailer. The Forever 21 representative said the store will occupy 18,055 square feet; the storefront was previously occupied by Dress Barn.

Forever 21 is but one cog in the Chestnut Street retail revival machine: Last fall saw the openings of both Uniqlo and Nordstrom Rack, as well as the high-profile relocation of Joan Shepp, which will be just a few doors from the new Forever 21 location when it opens. Nor is this the only Forever 21 opening soon: a store will open Saturday in Washington, D.C., and the retailer's 10th Chinese location opened in Beijing on Tuesday. Racked.com reported in June that the company is looking to double its number of stores worldwide.

Stay tuned for more details as they emerge.
