I-295 ramp to Route 42 closed in Camden County

The ramp will reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday

The Interstate 295 southbound ramp to Route 42 will be closed until 8 a.m. Saturday to permit the installation of test piles.

Motorists will be detoured to I-76 westbound, where they will should take the Market Street exit, turn left onto Market Street and take Interstate 76 eastbound until reaching Route 42 southbound.

The work is part of the $900 million Direct Connection project that aims to provide a seamless route for I-295 motorists travelling through the interchange of I-295, I-76 and Route 42.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation website provides further updates to the Direction Connection project.

“Residents should be aware that in addition to tonight’s closures, this construction will impact their commute and their communities for several years,” Camden County Freeholder Ian Leonard said in a statement. “When this project is completed, it will alleviate much of the traffic congestion currently experienced on a daily basis. It will be a monumental change for this highway interchange creating a substantial upgrade to the current configuration.”
