NBC cuts ties with Donald Trump in wake of 'derogatory remarks' about immigrants

In a statement released Monday afternoon, NBC announced it would cut ties with Donald Trump in the aftermath of "derogatory statements" he made regarding Mexican immigrants.

Earlier this month, in a speech announcing his bid for the Republican nomination, Trump accused Mexico of sending rapists and other criminals to the United States.

"They're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing their problems," he said. "They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists, and some I assume are good people, but I speak to border guards and they tell us what we are getting."

The network will no longer air the Miss USA or Miss Universe pageants. NBC is also removing Trump as host of "The Apprentice."

“Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump,” NBC said in a statement. “At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values.”
