Resident Artists from the Academy of Vocal Arts will compete in the annual Giargiari Bel Canto Competition at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Opera lovers know that every legendary career begins with a breakthrough performance. On Saturday, October 3, audiences at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts will have the opportunity to witness those defining moments when the Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) presents its annual Giargiari Bel Canto Competition.

For more than 45 years, the competition has been one of AVA's signature events, showcasing the remarkable artistry of the school's internationally acclaimed Resident Artists. These emerging performers will compete by performing some of opera's most celebrated arias before a live audience and distinguished panel of judges.

The audience becomes part of the performance

One of the evening's most exciting traditions is the Audience Choice Award, giving attendees the opportunity to vote for their favorite performer.

Each Resident Artist brings a unique voice, interpretation, and stage presence, making every performance memorable. Audience members play an active role in recognizing exceptional talent while enjoying an evening filled with dramatic storytelling, breathtaking music, and unforgettable performances.

A tradition of excellence

The Giargiari Bel Canto Competition reflects AVA's longstanding commitment to developing world-class opera performers through intensive training and performance opportunities.

Under the musical direction of Danielle Orlando, Resident Artists will perform technically demanding arias that showcase not only vocal excellence but also emotional interpretation, dramatic expression, and artistic maturity.

Whether you're an experienced opera enthusiast or attending your very first performance, the competition offers an accessible and exciting introduction to the artistry that defines grand opera.
