In this April 9, 2014, file photo, Nicolas Cage arrives for the "Joe" premiere hosted by Lionsgate and The Cinema Society in New York. Cage has agreed to give back a national treasure from Mongolia. A publicist for the star of the "National Treasure" adventure films confirmed Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, that Cage was the unwitting buyer of a dinosaur skull that federal prosecutors in New York say was stolen.

Actor and producer Nicolas Cage is set to play the starring role in an upcoming thriller, 'Philly Fury,' that revolves around a mob family thrown into a dire crisis.

According to Variety, Cage will take the lead role in a film about a Philadelphia businessman whose brother is kidnapped for a hefty ransom, but everyone believes it was pre-arranged in an elaborate extortion scheme. Cage, a mobster, is compelled to save his brother despite the skepticism surrounding his brother's kidnapping.

Written by Jason Mosberg, 'Philly Fury' will be produced by Randall Emmit and George Furla of Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films, which is currently wrapping up the Scorcese-directed 'Silence' and is also behind '478,' starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Scoot McNairy. The film will be released by Lionsgate Premiere.

Cage will next appear in “USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage," a World War II film about the survivors of a ship torpedoed by a Japanese submarine, and Oliver Stone's 'Snowden.' He also plans to direct and star in the indie thriller 'Vengeance: A Love Story," where he will play a detective.

Filming for 'Philly Fury,' to be directed by Stephen C. Miller, will begin in May. After seeing scenes of Philadelphia in 'Creed,' it would definitely be nice to follow that up with another reel of local cameos.
