In need of funding to operate an athletic program, recreation activity or health initiative in Philadelphia? City officials are looking for non-profit organizations.

The city's Parks and Recreation Department announced Friday that applications for this year's Philadelphia Activities Fund Grants are now being accepted. Forms can be found at the city's website, all recreation centers, Police Athletic League facilities, libraries and City Council offices.

Handed out annually, the awards "foster and promote the educational values of sportsmanship, the arts and health to individuals in Philadelphia," city officials said. The program is a non-profit corporation that was established jointly by the Mayor's Office and City Council.

Few guidelines are provided, but funds are reserved for non-profit organizations based in the city.

The deadline to submit an application is May 1.
