The Philadelphia Eagles announced the signings of 15 undrafted rookie free agents on Sunday.
One of those players came right from the team's backyard. Wide receiver Rasheed Bailey from Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, who graduated from Roxborough High School, was among the players who signed with the team following the NFL Draft.
Bailey finished a four year career at Delaware Valley last season as the school's all time leader in receiving yards (3,138). He also leaves the Aggies with 29 career touchdowns and 165 catches, second and third in school history respectively.
The first player from Delaware Valley University to sign in the NFL since offensive lineman Steve Wanger joined the Eagles for training camp in 1993, Bailey said in a school press release that he was thrilled and appreciative of the chance to join the team.
"It's one of the greatest days of my life. I am so grateful to the Philadelphia Eagles for giving me this opportunity and I'm going to go out there and prove myself every day and see where God leads me."
The 6'2" senior racked up several accolades in his final campaign, including a spot on the AFCA Division III Coaches’ All-America Team. While the signing isn't a guarantee that Bailey will even make it to the team's training camp, let alone succeed in the league, he wouldn't be the first player to make a name for himself after going unselected in the draft.
6 ABC profiled Bailey last month, where he noted that while going to a small school may make some teams take him less seriously, he believes he can make it in the NFL.
