Destination divorces are now a thing.

It might sound ironic for a vacation to end in divorce, but that’s exactly the model behind the DivorceHotel, a weekend getaway planned to put a positive spin on the next chapter of life after marriage.

Coined “destination divorces” to play on the term destination weddings, DivorceHotel guests check in as spouses and can check out single, according to Women’s Health reporter Anna Borges.

The Dutch company currently offers divorce packages at six hotels in the Netherlands and, in the past, has offered the option at the Gideon Putnam Resort & Spa in Saratoga Springs in upstate New York.

Borges interviewed DivorceHotel’s CEO Jim Halfens, who explains that the three-day resort getaway includes separate rooms for the couple complete with spa treatments, therapy sessions, dinners and more.

The getaway may lead to rekindled love or, in the case of the alternative, hopefully, a peaceful end to what once was.

"The marriage that failed, that's the negative part of the story," Halfens told Borges. "The divorce should be a positive new start."
