After only a couple of summer league games, it wouldn’t be appropriate to make any definitive judgements based off of Ben Simmons’ performance.
In this very small sample, he has shown both bad and good. Simmons is shooting a poor 4-17 from the field, struggling to finish while other teams sag into the paint and dare him to shoot. On the other end of the floor, he has showcased the ability to move his feet on the perimeter (although he got caught out of a stance more in Thursday’s game than the one a few days before).
Again though, it’s two summer league games.
What has stood out on the positive side of the ledger is something we already knew from watching Simmons at LSU: His passing instincts are off the charts. He has 11 assists to two turnovers through two games, and those numbers are completely underselling how ridiculous his court vision has been.
Simmons throws high-quality assists for layups and dunks that are right on the money. Check out his work from just last night's game:
Simmons will have to improve as a scorer, but his passing appears to be tailor-made for the Internet. At the very least, he's going to be a fun player to keep up with.
