WATCH: Christie appears on 'Tonight Show,' talks Trump

N.J. governor reiterates he wasn't held hostage during speech

Again, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie wants you to know that Donald Trump was not holding him hostage.

The former presidential candidate and current Trump backer appeared on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" Friday night and was questioned by the host about his facial expression standing behind The Donald during the GOP frontrunner's Super Tuesday victory speech.

Give Christie credit: He was able to deflect the question back on Fallon by citing the former host of the show, saying, "This is what you would look like if you were standing behind Jay Leno when he was doing his monologue."

After being met with some ominous "oh's" from the crowd, he explained, "If you're used to talking, it's awkward not to talk."

Fallon went on to ask Christie why he picked Trump over the remaining candidates. The governor explained he thinks Trump is "better," noting, "it wasn't like I drew it out of a hat or something." You can watch a clip of Christie's appearance below:
