It doesn't work 100 percent — and nothing can make the "this cab was rare" line make sense — but I am mostly digging the way Boulder, Colorado band The Ridgelings took a silly, ’90s rap classic and made it a mournful, rootsy ballad. Reworked for banjo, guitar and cittern (I believe), the song especially works in the beginning, lending an air of vague menace when those no-good guys start making trouble in the neighborhood.
