According to police, the incident occurred on Dec. 2 at about 6:30 a.m. Police said a 47-year-old male employee at King Philly Laundry, located at 5800 Market St., was working when a black male entered and displayed a handgun while demanding money.

Authorities said that the suspect - whom the victim told police he knows as “Saleem” - began to struggle with the employee. Police said the suspect fired one shot, which missed the employee and a witness, and then assaulted the employee by striking him several times in the head with a gun.

The suspect, whom police described as a black man in his mid-50s with a dark complexion, heavy-set build, gray beard and bald head, was wearing a black puffy jacket and blue jeans at the time of the incident.

Police said the suspect fled and was last seen heading north on 58th Street.

The employee sustained an injury over his left eye, authorities said.
