Woman struck by train on SEPTA tracks in Abington Township

A woman is recovering in the hospital after being struck by a train in the Philadelphia suburbs late Friday night.

Officers responded to the 2200 block of Mt. Carmel Avenue in Abington Township around 11:30 p.m. after receiving a report of someone lying on the SEPTA tracks.

There, they found a 35-year-old suffering from injuries consistent with being hit by a train. Police said its unclear exactly when the woman was struck.

The woman was treated at the scene and taken to Abington Hospital. She sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Authorities said it appears the woman had been walking along the tracks when she was accidentally hit.

Abington and SEPTA police are investigating.
