Woman in wheelchair killed by drunk driver in hit-and-run crash

A drunk driver was arrested after killing a woman in a wheelchair and fleeing the scene in North Philadelphia, according to media reports.

The incident occurred Saturday around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Lehigh Avenue and Mascher Street in Fairhill, FOX29 reports.

Authorities say a 29-year-old man was driving a pick-up truck when he struck a 37-year-old woman who was in a wheelchair. As the driver sped away, he struck an 18-year-old woman.

Police later observed the driver running a red light at the intersection of B Street and Lehigh Avenue and stopped the vehicle.

Eventually, officers discovered that the truck was involved in the crash and arrested the driver.

According to 6ABC, the first victim was transported to Temple University Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The second victim positively identified the driver and was also taken to Temple where she was treated for minor injuries.

Authorities have not identified the driver or the victims.
