Artists turn everyday objects into art for New Jersey exhibit

Clocks, combs, paper become more meaningful

"Ordinary Obsessions" is the fourth exhibition at ArtYard since it’s inception in September of 2016. "Threading Water" is a piece by artist Lois Andison. ArtYard is a contemporary art center based in Frenchtown, New Jersey, founded by a group of artists, writers, curators and friends.

Toronto-based artists Ken Nicol and Lois Andison will have their work featured in an exhibit at New Jersey contemporary art center ArtYard through September.

The exhibition "Ordinary Obsessions" will feature drawings, sculptures, installations and video works. Both artists looked at everyday objects for inspiration in creating thought-provoking work.

"They explore issues of fragility, intimacy, introspection and loss, in a dialogue that is by turns unsettling, melancholic, comical and profound," states ArtYard.

Nicol spent ten years collecting 100 Big Ben clocks used in the exhibit. In Andison’s work, look for visual puns.

"Ordinary Obsessions" opening reception will take place 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, June 24.

The Frenchtown, New Jersey, art center was founded by a group of artists, writers, curators and friends. ArtYard includes a theater and film program, an artist residency and art exhibition spaces.

The space is open Wednesdays through Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
