Lauryn Hill postpones Monday night's concert at Wells Fargo Center

The hip-hop star says she is having vocal issues and her doctors recommended a few days rest. Her Philly concert with The Fugees is rescheduled for Nov. 25

Lauren Hill, the singer, rapper and songwriter who got her start as a member of hip-hop trio The Fugees, has postponed her concert scheduled for Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philly. The show will now take place Nov. 25.

Hill is following the advice of her doctors, the singer wrote on Instagram on Sunday evening. The show, part of a North American tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of her acclaimed solo debut "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," was to be co-headlined by The Fugees.

"On the advice of my physicians, I have no choice but to postpone the show tomorrow," Hill said. "I need to rest my voice to prevent any more serious strain or damage to my vocal cords."

She said she would be "resting for a few days" before traveling to Toronto for her concert at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday.

Since the album's release in 1998, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" has been revered by critics as one of the best albums ever.  It received 10 Grammy nominations, winning five awards, including Album of the Year. It was the first album to ever receive a perfect rating from XXL magazine. In 2020, Rolling Stone listed it as the 10th greatest album of all time. Last year, Pitchfork named it the second-best album of the 1990s. And in 2017, NPR ranked it as the second-greatest album made by a woman. 

Hill began her solo career after recording two albums with Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel as The Fugees, the. The group broke up in 1997, The Fugees have periodically reunited on stage – including a surprise performance at The Roots Picnic in Philadelphia earlier this year.
