South Jersey mom hid crack, heroin under toddler in car seat, police say

A New Jersey mother allegedly hid drugs and paraphernalia underneath her toddler in a car seat, NBC10 reports.

Tara Worthy, 26, was pulled over in a 2001 BMW around 5:30 p.m. Monday in Manchester Township, Ocean County, according to investigators.

Police say Worthy was driving with a suspended driver’s license and that she had concealed a small handbag underneath her seat containing drug paraphernalia associated with heroin use

She and a passenger in the car were arrested and transported to police headquarters, along with Worthy’s 19-month-old child, who was still in the child safety seat, police said.

When the child was removed from the safety seat at police headquarters, investigators said officers reportedly discovered heroin, crack cocaine and other drug paraphernalia underneath the toddler.

Worthy faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, possession of heroin, possession of crack cocaine, hindering apprehension and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The toddler was turned over to the custody of the Division of Child Protection and Permanency at Manchester Police Headquarters.
