PHS Pop-Up Gardens return to three spots this summer.

Yes, Philadelphians love their beer gardens and pop-up parks. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society combines both loves with their Pop-Up Gardens each summer. This season the temporary drinking holes will officially open on South Street and East Passyunk Monday, June 1.

There will be plenty of greenery and flora, naturally, as well as beer, cocktails and snacks available for purchase. South Street will receive a pop-up at 1438 South Street. It will have a decidedly Bohemian flair, a beer menu by Barren Hill Brewery and light fare like hot dogs and pretzels from Dietz & Watson. Barren Hill will pour its PHS exclusive Garden Variety Wit in addition to other craft picks.

East Passyunk residents will find their pop-up at 829 Wharton Street. It will have a fitting hipster flare, with tons of recycled materials making up the space alongside bean bag chairs and stadium seating. The brain trust behind Cantina Los Caballitos, Royal Tavern and Triangle Tavern is creating a food and drink menu which also includes Italian dishes in a nod to the local history.

Though each park is set to open June 1, rumor has it they've soft opened as of Friday, May 29. The opening date for a third PHS Pop-Up Garden, in Logan Square, has yet to be determined.
