WATCH: Brutally honest 'Space Jam' trailer - and original website - just too good

The folks over at Screen Junkies took on Space Jam in their latest Honest Trailer.

One of my weekly guilty pleasures over the last few years is heading over to the Screen Junkies YouTube page and checking out their latest "Honest Trailer."

If you're unfamiliar, they're basically re-cut movie trailers that parody both current and past popular films. They're tremendous, and you should watch them all (or at least this one, this one, and this one).

This week, as part of their fan appreciation month, Screen Junkies dropped an Honest Trailer for their third-most requested movie, "Space Jam." Or, as they called it, "the 'Citizen Kane' of live-action-animated hybrid basketball movies."

Fans of 90s basketball and nostalgia, you may want to cover your ears. For everyone else, here's a brutally honest trailer for a "ninety-minute commercial that in retrospect only exists to sell Looney Tunes toys and Air Jordans but sadly is still the best movie starring an NBA player."

As someone who still has a VHS copy of "Space Jam" on his bookshelf, this one hurt.

But they do have a point. That really was "one of the worst refereed games of basketball since the ref in 'Air Bud' let a dog on the court."

That soundtrack though...

Finally, if you stuck around until the end of the trailer, they mentioned that the movie website (from 1996) still exists in its original form.

It does. And it's glorious.

You can even play a game against the Monstars. Unfortunately, I didn't have the correct Shockwave plug-in to make it work.

A tip of the hat to my former colleague Brian McCardle (@BriMcCardle) for turning me on to these Honest Trailers a few years back.

[This is also the perfect time to share one of the greatest videos in internet history: "30 for 30: The Space Jam Game."]
