Joel Embiid responds to LaVar Ball fine: ‘It’s just something I had to do’

Joel Embiid’s wallet is now $10,000 lighter thanks to his decision to curse out LaVar Ball on Instagram. And when the Sixers center was asked about the incident this week at the Variety Sports & Entertainment Summit, there was a clear answer: sorry, not sorry.

Here’s the video from the Variety event (via Avery Yang)

“I think most people have been wanting to say that, but I guess I was the guy to say that. I’m glad I said it,” Embiid said. “Social media is just about having fun.”

His CAA agent, Jessica Holtz, was also on the panel, and suggested that he ease up on the curse words next time.

“We got to chill a little on the curse words,” Embiid conceded. “It’s just something I had to do because everybody else had been thinking about it.”

It sure seems like Devin Booker, Karl-Anthony Towns, and D’Angelo Russell got a kick out of the whole thing.

The loudmouth father of Lakers rookie point guard Lonzo Ball responded by calling Embiid “unintelligent.” Considering the beef that Embiid and Ben Simmons already have with the Ball family, the first Lakers-Sixers game is sort of must-watch TV at the point, right?
