Report: Chester police officer critically injured, suspect killed in shootout

Officials say incident stemmed from report of suspected vehicle theft

Authorities in Chester are investigating after a police officer was injured and a man was fatally shot Saturday afternoon in an incident involving a potentially stolen vehicle.

According to officials, the incident occurred after a Chester police officer responded to a report of a stolen vehicle near on Union and Parker streets, 6 ABC reports.

When three armed suspects attempted to flee the scene, gunfire broke out and the officer, who has not been identified, was struck in the shoulder.

Authorities said two of the armed suspects were also shot during the altercation. One of the suspects was killed and another was transported to Crozer-Chester Medical Center. The third suspect was placed under arrest.

The Chester police officer was rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
