Healthy prepared foods store Snap Kitchen plans to open 5 stores in the Philadelphia area this year plus an 8,500-square-foot kitchen in Kensington, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported.
Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Snap Kitchen shares the same hometown as Whole Foods and caters to a similar clientele. The combination restaurant and convenience store sells ready-to-go meals, snacks and juices to health-conscious consumers and those with dietary restrictions, such as low-sodium, vegan or paleo diets.
According to the company's website, the company's core promises are "quality ingredients," "sustainable practices," "conscious sourcing" and "total transparency."
Items on the menu included paleo-friendly “grass fed lamb lasagna,” vegan “grilled kale Hoppin’ John” and gluten-free “Mediterranean spaghetti squash.”
The company hopes to open in Rittenhouse Square, the Jefferson Hospital area, Old City, Fairmount and Malvern within four months. The move may create up to 150 jobs.
The company is also building an industrial kitchen at 3401 I Street where all the food for the restaurants will be cooked.
Founded in 2010, Snap Kitchen has stores in Austin, Dallas, Houston and Chicago.
