2016 Jersey Shore beach guide: Atlantic City

If your idea of a weekend 'down the shore' includes just as much nightlife and entertainment as lazy-day beach lounging, then Atlantic City is the place for you.

This summer, Atlantic City will welcome several new nightlife offerings – including two new nightclubs, Premier Nightclub and WAV – as well as a lineup of (free!) beach concerts on the city's (free!) beaches.

And don't forget the return of Atlantic City summertime staples like shopping and strolling on the iconic Atlantic City Boardwalk (think "Boardwalk Empire"), sunbathing on the beaches, sipping cocktails at the adjacent beach bars, visiting casinos and restaurants run by famous chefs and riding the rides at Steel Pier.

Beach tags:

Nope, you don't need them!

Lifeguard hours:

The city's beaches are patrolled from Memorial Day through Labor Day between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. with later hours (until 7-8 p.m.) offered at select beach blocks during prime parts of the summer season. For more information, visit www.acbp.org.

Beach rules:

Alcohol is not permitted on the city's beaches, however, there are several adjacent beach bars with liquor permits for those looking to imbibe.

As for activities, kayaking and windsurfing are permitted at the Jackson Avenue Beach, and there are volleyball nets available at Albany Avenue. Boogie boards and bodyboards are permitted, but people are asked to use caution.

Public parking:

Private lots are located throughout the city for a fee, while free and metered street parking is also available. The Atlantic City Jitney service is another affordable way to get around the city. Find details on the AC Jitneys here.

Events:

The Atlantic City Boardwalk, casinos and Boardwalk Hall seem to always be bustling with activities and events, particularly during the warmer-weather season. Some standout events include the annual Miss America Pageant held at Boardwalk Hall, the city's Fourth of July fireworks display and free beach concerts.

Find a full listing of (many, but not all) upcoming events here.
