School officials locked down campus buildings Tuesday night for about an hour

A shooting Tuesday night in Allentown injured four people and prompted officials at nearby Muhlenberg College to briefly put campus buildings on lockdown and order students to shelter in place.

A shooting in Allentown injured four people and prompted officials at nearby Muhleberg College to place campus buildings on lockdown and order students to shelter in place.

The shots were fired at about 7 p.m. Tuesday near 19th and West Turner streets, which is about a block from Muhlenberg's stadium and just a few blocks from the main portion of the school's campus. Four people arrived at a nearby hospital with gunshot injuries, 6ABC reported.

Further details on the victims or what led to the incident have not been released, but police said there was no threat to the community. 

Muhlenberg's campus police said they had been notified about shooting by 8:00 p.m. and then activated lockdown procedures and alerted students on campus to shelter in place. By 9:00 p.m. the lockdown had been lifted. 

"Once the incident was deemed complete, the lockdown was lifted," Muhlenberg Campus Safety wrote in a post about the incident. "There is no ongoing threat to the campus community at this time."

Muhlenberg College police increased patrols and officer presence in high-traffic areas on campus, the department said, and remained in contact with Allentown Police throughout the lockdown. 

Muhlenberg is a private liberal arts college with about 1,900 undergraduate students.
