The Bass Pro Shops store in Atlantic City celebrated its highly-anticipated opening on Wednesday, a milestone for the resort town, which has been experiencing economic turmoil amid several casinos closing over the past few years.

A major part of the city’s recovery plan is to create non-gaming entertainment to draw tourists to the city. According to The Press of Atlantic City, which covered the store’s opening,  the Bass Pro Shop is anticipated to attract 1.2 million customers annually.

The hunting, fishing and outdoors retail giant is located at the foot of the Atlantic City Expressway, next to city’s shopping outlets. It also features an indoor pistol range.

According to the Press, the state contributed a $12.3 million loan to help finance the store’s estimated $15 million construction cost and will fund an additional $11 million over 11 years as part of a sales-tax rebate program.
