Recap: Live updates/open thread: Eagles vs. Giants

In a game that head coach Doug Pederson described as a "must win," the Philadelphia Eagles head up to Metlife Stadium in the great state of New Jersey to take on the New York Giants.

Four Eagles players appear on the injury report this week, all of whom will not play today, most notably Bennie Logan, who is arguably the Eagles' best run stopper. Against the Cowboys last week, Logan's absence was more relevant, as the Cowboys have the best rushing attack in the NFL. The Giants, on the other hand, not so much. You can find the updated injury report here.

The Giants' passing attack can be dangerous at times, as they employ Odell Beckham Jr., who is considered by most to be a top-five receiver in the NFL. The Giants' running game, however, has been brutally bad. Defensively, the Giants struggle to stay off the field, as they have the worst time of possession in the NFL. Here are our five matchups to watch.

After a couple of weeks in which the PhillyVoice staff of writers had dissension with our picks, we are uniform this week in picking the Eagles to win this game. Here are the reasons why each of see the Eagles improving to 5-3 today.

For quick reference, the NFC East standings heading into Week 9:

NFC East
 Cowboys
 Giants
 Eagles
 Redskins

As for the other games on the slate this week:

Early afternoon games:

  1. Steelers at Ravens
  2. Cowboys at Browns
  3. Jaguars at Chiefs
  4. Jets at Dolphins
  5. Lions at Vikings

Late afternoon games:

  1. Panthers at Rams
  2. Saints at 49ers
  3. Titans at Chargers
  4. Colts at Packers

Sunday Night Football:

  1. Broncos at Raiders

Monday Night Football:

  1. Bills at Seahawks

The obvious other game of importance to the Eagles would be the Cowboys at the Browns. While I picked the Cowboys to win and cover in my Week 9 NFL picks, don't be surprised if the Cowboys drop this one. As a reminder, if not for very favorable calls earlier this season, they probably would have lost to the garbage 49ers.

And then, of course, there's Sleevie Wonder and the Minnesota Vikings, who are worth keeping an eye on to see if their downward slide continues, as the Eagles hold their first round pick. The Redskins, meanwhile, have the week off.

Feel free to discuss the Eagles game below.
