New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission offices in Burlington and Camden counties have been closed after employees at each location tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Delanco Licensing Center, at 400 Creek Road, will remain shut down until Oct. 24 and the Runnemede Vehicle Center, at 835 E. Clements Bridge Road, will closed until Oct. 26, the MVC said.

The employee who tested positive for the virus in Delanco was last at the licensing center on Oct. 9. In Runnemede, the worker who contracted COVID-19 was at work on Oct. 10.

The facilities are being cleaned and contract tracing of employees is being conducted.

The Delanco Licensing Center's road test operations are in a separate facility and will remain open.

In addition to the Delanco and Runnemede offices, five other New Jersey MVC locations are currently shut down because of positive coronavirus tests among employees.

Since reopening during the pandemic, the MVC has closed individual locations on 11 occasions due to employees testing positive. In most instances only one employee contracted the virus, but two regional MVC centers were forced to close because of multiple workers had become infected.

There's been no proof at this time that the virus ever was contracted at an agency location in these instances, the MVC said. The agency's policy is to immediately quarantine following a single positive COVID-19 test, and MVC officials say that protected employees and customers.

"We are proud of this record and will continue to follow our strict guidelines," the agency said.

Customers should visit NJMVC.gov before heading out to an MVC facility to check for the latest information about closures and capacities at specific offices. There also is information on the website about alternative locations and how to complete transactions online.

Changes at the MVC allow for more transactions – including license and registration renewals – to be completed online without a in-person visit to an MVC office.
