A holiday pop-up exhibit is opening at Elfreth's Alley

A new pop-up exhibit is opening at Elfreth's Alley this holiday season. 

"Making Christmas," inside the Museum House, will explore German immigrant influences on the Alley and Christmas traditions in Philadelphia.

The exhibit will explain how Santa Claus, the Christmas tree, Christmas cookies and toys became part of the celebration in America.

"Making Christmas" will open on Thanksgiving. Visitors can check out the exhibit on Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $5. 

The last day to see the exhibit will be Sunday, Dec. 31.

Elfreth's Alley will also host its annual Deck the Alley holiday event this December. It will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2.
