Tyson Foerster has been out since Dec. 1, but he'll make his return to the Flyers' lineup Thursday night for a crucial home game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Tyson Foerster was seen hopping on for the morning skate at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Thursday in the standard black practice jersey.
Soon after, the Flyers confirmed all hopes and suspicions: He's good to go, and maybe at just the right time.
Foerster, who has been out since Dec. 1 with an upper-body injury and resulting surgery that was initially expected to keep him out for the rest of the regular season, will re-enter the Flyers' lineup for Thursday night's crucial home game against the Detroit Red Wings.
And if the morning skate is any indication, he'll skate right at the top, taking up the left wing next to Trevor Zegras at center and Owen Tippett on the right wing, per NBC Sports Philadelphia's Jordan Hall.
Prior to his injury, Foerster was arguably the Flyers' best forward. He piled up 10 goals through 21 games and carried a plus-7 rating, playing a style of game that covered all 200 feet of the ice, that consistently won puck battles along the wall and in the corners, and brought a willingness to shoot at a time when the team generally lacked it elsewhere.
Coming down the stretch of a playoff race that the Flyers are still heavily in the mix of, they sure could use that kind of jolt to their lineup, with the hopes that the 24-year-old will pick right up from where he left off.
"There's a lot of things," head coach Rick Tocchet said of what Foerster can bring back to the Flyers this late into the season. "The hockey IQ, his hockey IQ is outstanding....shot ability, [he] plays all situations. He's a hockey player. He gets it done, so we're excited for him.
"He worked hard. Four months, a lot of lonely nights at the rink by himself, so I give him a lot of credit."
Now he'll be back to try to give the Flyers that last push into the postseason, along with the newly arrived rookie Porter Martone, who made his debut at right wing in Tuesday night's loss at Washington, and will play at home for the first time Thursday night in front of a Philly crowd that's been waiting for more than a year to see him skate in an orange and black uniform.

The Flyers enter Thursday night with 86 points in the Eastern Conference standings. They're two points away from the Columbus Blue Jackets (88) for the second Wild Card spot, and three away from the New York Islanders (89) for the third in the Metropolitan Division, while sitting tied with Detroit and the Ottawa Senators, who both have 86 points as well.
The Red Wings are up Thursday, then the Flyers will immediately head up to Belmont to play the Islanders on Friday in a back-to-back.
The Flyers have eight games left, and at this point, it looks like all of them are going to matter.
Maybe they're as ready for them as they'll ever be now with Foerster making his way back.
Sam Ersson will have the start in goal for Thursday night's pivotal matchup.
It's been an overall struggle of a year for him, but since the Olympic break, he's found enough of his form to manage a 5-0-0 record across his starts, with a .933 save percentage that included a big 2-1 overtime win over the Dallas Stars on Sunday.
Give the Flyers credit defensively, too, as they've done a lot to take away looks and keep things mostly clear in front of their own net to keep it as simple as possible on their netminders.
Ersson only faced 18 shots against Dallas on Sunday, and hasn't faced any more than 26 since the break.
The Flyers are still heavily leaning on Dan Vladar as their No. 1 netminder, and will likely look back to him for Friday night against the Islanders, but they do still need to give him a breather, while still being able to know they can get a save.
The responsibility will fall to Ersson Thursday night, in maybe his biggest spot yet.
Sam Ersson is 5-0-0 since the Olympic break with a .933 save percentage and 1.46 GAA.
