Judge denies plea to drop charges in beating of gay couple

The defendants are three Bucks County residents in their 20s, two men and a woman

Charges against the three 20-somethings accused of physically and verbally assaulting a gay couple in Center City last September will stand, a judge has ruled.

According to Newsworks, Common Pleas Judge Frank Palumbo denying the motion to drop the aggravated assault and conspiracy charges against the three defendants, Kevin Harrigan, Phillip Williams and Kathryn Knott, all residents of Bucks County.

Aggravated assault carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years in prison.

According to crime reports, the incident, which was also captured on surveillance video, had occurred last September, when the gay couple Zachary Hesse and Andrew Haught were allegedly walking in Rittenhouse Square when the defendants began to taunt and then assault them.

“Kevin Harrigan, among a group of about 10 others, asked Haught if Hesee was his boyfriend. Following that, Harrigan allegedly called Hesse an anti-gay slur leading to shoving, which escalated into a violent beating, according to testimony and reported by NewsWorks.
