National Bowling Day is Aug. 8.

Cuz it's one, two, three strikes ... a turkey?

No, not the food. Three strikes in a row are what bowlers refer to as a "turkey." And with Saturday being National Bowling Day, it's time to brush up on the game's lingo.

In honor of the holiday, why not put down the Wii remote and get out and partake in some real bowling?

Grab some friends, lace up those sexy bowling shoes and have at it. Check out these six local spots to get your bowl on.

North Bowl

Opened in July 2006, North Bowl is a completely renovated former mechanics garage that offers more than just bowling. This building on North Second Street in Northern Liberties features food, drinks, a pool table, arcade games and more.

Check out North Bowl's happy hour and late-night happy-hour specials for discounted bowling, bites and beverages.

South Bowl

South Bowl, the modern bar-meets-bowling alley in South Philly, opened in February. This completely renovated former cold-storage warehouse on East Oregon Avenue now houses 26 state-of-the-art bowling lanes.

Open seven days a week, this sibling of Northern Liberties' North Bowl includes two private bowling areas, two full-size bars, a full menu, vintage seating, billiards and an outdoor roof deck. Visitors can even enjoy happy-hour bowling.

Lucky Strike Philadelphia

Lucky Strike on Chestnut Street is one of a number of the alley's locations across the country. The venue holds 24 state-of-the-art lanes, as well as billiard tables, ping-pong tables and more.

Enjoy beer, wine and cocktails and be sure to take advantage of specials like "Bottomless Bowling" – $15 all-you-can-bowl every Sunday through Wednesday from 9 p.m. to close.

PEP Bowl

PEP Bowl on South Broad Street is owned by a nonprofit. Proceeds go to PEP (Programs Employing People) to provide much-needed employment and services to people with developmental disabilities in the Philadelphia area.

PEP Bowl is BYOB.

Limerick Bowl

Limerick Bowl is a family entertainment center located in Limerick, Montgomery County. This spot features 48 lanes, including eight for private parties.

There are also billiard tables, arcade games and the Alley Gators Sports Bar & Grill.

For those across the bridge in South Jersey, Playdrome in Cherry Hill features 36 bowling lanes, billiards, arcade games and a bar and grill. Playdrome is also a great venue for kids' parties and corporate events.
