Britney Spears cancels Las Vegas residency after father rushed to the hospital

Britney Spears has canceled her Las Vegas residency, "Britney: Domination," due to her father’s health.

The “Baby One More Time” singer took to Instagram to deliver an emotional response to her reasoning behind postponing the residency indefinitely. She posted a childhood photo of herself with her father, Jamie Spears, and mother, Lynne Spears.

In the post she explains how difficult this is for her, adding, “I will not be performing my new show ‘Domination.’ I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart.”

But while this is hard for the singer, she notes, “It’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make.”

She continues, “A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand.”

It was revealed Jamie Spears was rushed to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas due to a spontaneous colon rupture two months ago. He was immediately admitted into surgery and was hospitalized for 28 days. He is expected to make a full recovery, despite a difficult post-operative period.

She thanks her fans for their support, saying, “I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always."
