Four Camden schools will be turned over to Renaissance operators and one will be "retired," the Courier-Post reported Wednesday.
The J.G. Whittier School building was chosen to be "retired." According to the report, the five schools chosen were identified by the district as among the "most struggling" institutions.
Superintendent Paymon Rouhanifard announced the news during a press conference Wednesday at the North Camden Community Center. Rouhanifard said the students of those five schools would not be split up, Philly.com reports:
"We are asking our students and families to stay, and let us prove we can provide a world-class education at a neighborhood school."
