Police: Car accident shuts down Route 70 in Cherry Hill, driver killed

Cherry Hill Police confirm highway shut down in both directions

A car accident on New Jersey's Route 70 in Cherry Hill has left one person dead and forced the closure of the highway Thursday night as police and emergency personnel responded to the scene, officials announced.

According to the Cherry Hill Police Department, Route 70 eastbound is expected to remain closed overnight between Cuthbert Boulevard and Donahue Avenue, with the exception of one lane. The westbound lanes have been reopened. 

According to 6 ABC, the accident occurred around 6:00 p.m. near Cuthbert Boulevard. Authorities said the driver of the vehicle was killed after losing control and striking a pole. Medics attempted to save the driver, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
